Srutinatok (audio drama / audio acting) has been an essential part of the cultural movement of India (more specifically West Bengal). The land of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam has inspired and given birth to uncountable lovers of drama. However, with the rise of the audio-visual acting, audio drama practices have decreased to such a level, that most of the people are unaware of this beautiful and evenly difficult form of acting.
So its time to revive the wonder with a new look. Several groups have emerged with wonderful scripts. We believe the world must be the spectator of the most difficult, yet fascinating form of drama called "Srutinatok".
Kolkata being the center of practicing the art, has managed to gain several spectators and listeners, however, 70% of the crowd is not clear with the concept of Srutinatok.
A friend of mine still believes, audio drama is something where the effects of rain are still created with a crushing plastic. Well, grow up! Introduction of technical equipments have contributed to better sound production. Use of laptops for live mode background scores rather than using cassettes and recorders which produce clicks and pops; use of stage vocal monitors for the actors have simplified microphone handling. People are on their way to present better live productions with more balanced sounds. We do miss the wonderful voice of Shri Late Gautam Chakraborty, but new artists are no less promising.
Tomorrow we have this event called, "Nabobarsher Boithak Srutir Aanginaaye" to be held at the Jivanananda Sabhaghar for 2 days (23.4.11 & 24.3.11) 6pm onwards.
